My Very Last Blog Post :(

I feel kinda sad that this semester has ended because I think this blog thing really improved my thought process. I have also learned that my typing is a lot faster so yay me! Another thing I'm pretty siked about is I'm taking another english class next semester. I never really liked English so I guess this is a newfound love. I will miss the class and the people. I think that this was such a great class for me to take since I really found interest in everything I did. I think this course helped me improve as a writer. So thank you blog! lol :)

The last class

Alright so apparently a lot of people decided to not go to class the last day. Their loss because there was donuts. Also I hope they check the blog because if I didn't go I would have had no idea about the papers extra two pages. I never did footnotes before or a notes page so I guess that was nice to learn. Overall I really liked this class and had a fun time learning how to find passion in my assignments. Although it was graded work I felt like every piece was enough of me to make it feel less like homework and more like me expressing myself. I had a great time this semester since I never really had much success in school so when I had my narrative read out loud the second day of class it made me more courageous and proud of my work. I lost a lot of my confidence in writing in high school because my teachers didn't encourage expression and with my writing in class I felt like I got a lot of that back.

Sunday

Alright so I just woke up and am starting to work on my review guide for my civil war class. I can't believe the semester is over in just 2 weeks! I feel like it was just beginning not too long ago! Is it possible I'm going to be a second semester freshman already? How is this possible? Wasn't it just thanksgiving? Oh well. I guess time flies when your doing a ton of school work. :)

Class

We picked our group project thing. It's King Henry VIII's wives which should be an interesting narrative/paper/research/I don't know what else. It sounds kinda interesting but also like a pain in the butt since their are quite a few requirements. I like the historical narrative idea. I like being creative in my writing so I think that will give me a great opportunity to do so. I'm pretty excited to do it but more so excited for christmas break! :)

ThanksGIVING!

My Thanksgiving break was awesome! I had so much fun seeing all of my family and friends. I actually got a longer break since I left on tuesday! It was nice to get away from WMU and spend some quality time in my bed :) I also had fun on thanksgiving because my favorite food it MASHED POTATOES! Clearly I'm still a little enthusiastic over them as they are their own food group in my mind. I had fun seeing all of my aunts and uncles. It was also fun to have my cousins from Australia come for the wondrous turkey day! It was such a fun break

Missing A Few

Alright well I guess it was thanksgiving break and I completely forgot to write a blog so I guess I'll just have to make up for them now! So the last class I remember was we worked on our genres. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought. Although doing a musical wasn't the easiest of genres it was really fun to write one. I had a lot of fun an was quite inspired while writing it. It was pretty interesting that I was writing characters that I had actually felt related to.

My weekend

So this weekend I went to Chicago with my family for my birthday! It was so much fun! We saw my favorite musical, Les Miserables. It was so good! I think I cried during every song. Every song touched me so much. The cast did a wonderful job of expressing the emotion to the cast. I think it was a great way to work on my paper, to see how a musical actually came together. I'm so glad I went with my family and it was so beautiful. I am really excited to get to the prime of my project because the show gave me such an enthusiastic stance for working on my paper.

Class

Alright so this week we got another project. This one is kind of a to-do project. For this project I chose the genre of doing a musical. It was an interesting topic and it's not something I know alot about. It was pretty stressful trying to put the similarities of musicals together because there is such s wide variety of shows and their isn't really a setting structure that they all follow there seems to always be an exception to the rule. I started my journal and figured out what I want my project to be on. It should be fun because there hasn't been any published musicals or playwrights written on my historica theme. I have looked at the three musicals of the sound of music, west side story and the wizard of oz to set up the structure of my story.

My Weekend

Alright, well this weekend was a lot of fun. It was fun celebrating my birthday which is tmrw! I'm going to be 19 so I guess that means I can drink in most of Europe and Canada now. So really nothing life changing or socially altering. Celebrating my birthday is about to be alot of fun but this weekend was the best weekend celebration I ever had. My boyfriend came up from Notre Dame to visit and bought me a nice card and ND sweatshirt. I love them and he did well on shopping for me. My friend Alex came to my room and dropped off my gift of a sweater and comfy knee socks. I also love them. In the mailI got awesome shoes and a jacket from my family. Although I won't be celebrating with my whole family I'm excited about my mom coming up to take me out to dinner tmrw!

Class

This week was a good week because I love fairy tale stories and this week we finally got to create one. It was interesting that we read three different fairy tales from the brother's grimm and then find what makes a fairy tale and that was our syllabus. I thought of a few stories and finally I was able to find one with a clear message and a lesson to learn from it. Sitting in class we discussed how the three stories were similar and it was surprising how all of the stories followed a set structure and no matter the story the ending always ended happily for the central good character.

The Weekend

This weekend I went to Spring Awakening and my brother came up to visit me. He goes to state so I hadn't seen him since, well I came to college. The show was really very good. Although I found the entire casts songs best and the lead girl weakest, the preformance was overall well done. The microphones seemed rather low during some of the songs making it hard to hear. The smaller parts seemed to have better voices than the leads which made me think that they were casted because it was their senior year. The group numbers were very good and the music was excellent. The acting was very believable so I had fun.

Research Paper

Although I had got everything done in time I was very frantic in class this week because I had two midterms and the paper was the last thing I wanted to focus on. Little did I know that the class was a great break to calm my nerves and get useful comments and critiques from classmates. We went through our paper reading it out loud which was very helpful because it was easy to see where my paper had its errors and breaks. It was also good to get a hard copy of the evaluations to look back on the paper with. I don't really enjoy reading my own paper out loud because I was a little embarrassed but overall it was a good way to easy my mind and get help with the paper.

My Weekend

I had a great weekend once again I found myself at notre dame visiting my boyfriend. It was fun because everyone was dressing up for the halloween dance. It was sponsored by redbull and I was surprised how many people went. It was to raise money for the troops so the name of the dance was 'rave for the brave,' it was a nice cause that they were raising money for. On Saturday notre dame had a football game and they have a winning streak so everyone on campus' faces were glued to the tv while the irish played against Oklahoma. Notre dame won and in all the excitement someone pulled the fire alarm and everyone had to evacuate the building. It sucked because it was cold, wet and raining outside. I had fun but I would have been much happier if I had stayed dry!

Class

After finding my thesis and posting it in my blog for class we scheduled our research paper conferences. We had to do our annotated bibliography and an outline. For the outline we had to state our thesis then bellow that find a scene in the movie that supports our thesis then describe the scene. Below though with a bullet point we had to relate that to our thesis and then an article or any written work that would support and prove our statement. The next thing we had to do was create an annotated bibliography with 8 sources. We had to write a summary of all the research of the sources and how they related to the topic of our paper.

Thesis 2

In the movie, Ever After, Danielle’s modern views and feminist ideas help her go from commoner to court life.

THESIS

In the movie, Ever After, Danielle is a modern women in the settings of a classic fairy tale.

The Weekend

I went home this weekend to turn in my early ballot. It was my first time voting so that was pretty exciting. It was also nice that I went home because I got to see a lot of my friends that were home for Fall Break (which is also frustrating because we don't have one. ) I got to see my cousins from Australia and they got to meet my boyfriend, who was home from Notre Dame for break. It was great to see my friends and family. I also got to see the movie Pitch Perfect. It was so funny and I really enjoyed it. Fat Amy, was the funniest character. It was fun to watch the actors all sing and dance and they were all really good too! So overall a great weekend! :)

10/17/12

Today in class we went over some of our favorite songs and alot of them were Rap. I wasn't really surprised but I  didn't really find any common ground with those songs and I couldn't really relate. I was disappointed that we didn't have much of a variety of song choices. So we had to pick either a book, song or movie that we had to do a analysis of. I think I want to work on an old Irish song that I've known since I was younger. I am pretty worried about how I'll find research on my paper but I think it will turn out fine.

Fun Post

This weekend was my Nana's 88th birthday so I went home to celebrate. It was so nice to see my two brothers come home from college to come to the party. But the even bigger surprise was that my cousins from Australia were in town. We saw as a group 42nd street. It's a musical. It was pretty good, alot of tap dancing. My favorite part of the show were the costumes. They were so pretty and sparkly. I had never seen a show in Stradford, Canada but it was very highly recommended. I had a fun time but I was mostly just happy to see my whole family home for my Nana's big day!

Class

The class this week I thought was pretty slow. The one day I was pretty excited to have class canceled (no offense :) ) We talked about the questions we had as a assignment for the Carrie movie. It was pretty freaky the movie and I didn't really enjoy watching the film or answering the questions about it. I'm not very good at analyzing movies so this assignment was pretty difficult. We also talked about finishing up our final draft of out narrative paper. I enjoyed the paper though. I thought my creative side came out through that piece a d I'm really not looking forward to the research paper.

10/01/12

Today in class our first two pages of our narrative were due. I really wasn't happy that our classmates were asked to read our papers out loud and give their input in. I felt kinda embarrassed. I wish that we stuck to the partner corrections instead. I also felt like I didn't know what to look for to correct my classmates papers. I felt awkward about giving my peers corrections when I wasn't sure if I had been right or not. But I guess it wasn't that bad but now I'm just nervous if my paper was rightfully corrected. I was relieved to have my paper done but now I'm stressing about the final draft. It's not a lot of time to get all this editing and assigned reading done. STRESSING

My Trip

This weekend was quite eventful. It was my first time that I had traveled by myself. It’s not that I went on a huge voyage but I did take a bus down to South Bend. It was a lot more stressful than just buying a ticket on a bus. I had to manage the transportation back and forth from the bus station via taxi. I was so very afraid that I would either get stuck here if my taxi didn’t get me there in time for the bus or get stuck in South Bend if I didn’t make it in time for the bus home. My fears came possible when the taxi was 15 mins late picking me up from the Valley. But luckily I made it within 5 min of the bus departing. I had a stressful start to the trip but was excited that I had managed to get myself around even though it was a place that was only and hour and a half away. Still it was an achievement in itself and I was happy.

9/24/12

So today in English we went over the paper we had just done. It was the one where they took a line from the poem that we wrote about where we were from and make it into a full page story. I found it pretty difficult to convert a one liner into a full paged story with dialogue but surprisingly I had fun thinking about one specific memory and realizing there were so many sounds, smells and images that I could remember with one short memory from my childhood.

The other thing we discussed was the reading we had for homework in the Mercury book which I had no interest it. I didn’t relate to the characters and I found myself skimming through the book just to get it done. I didn’t take in the story and I found it pretty boring.

Notre Dame vs. Michigan State

This weekend I attended my very first football game. I was pretty skeptical about going because I’ve never been before and I also don’t like watching football on the T.V.; so when my boyfriend bought me a ticket I wasn’t too trilled. In my mind I can’t stand the fact that when watching it on T.V. you watch maybe 10 minuates of the game for every 15 minuates of timeouts and commercials and standing for all that time sounded positively boring but I accepted the invitation anyways.
When we first arrived at Michigan State we met up with my boyfriend, Jacob’s family at his fathers companies tent. It started off pretty awkward because I was forced into wearing one of Jacob’s Notre Dame shirts to support his school and the company’s tent was filled with all State fans so the trash talk started pretty intensely for my liking. But, I was very surprised that I enjoyed the game very much.
At the game Jacob and I were in the Notre Dame student section and it was so much fun to see all the fans celebrating and cheering on their team. I’m not sure if it was the excitement of my first game or that I was with my boyfriend but every moment was filled with excitement and anxiousness. The best part was seeing how proud the Notre Dame fans were to be the first to score against the States defensive lineup. It was an even bigger deal to watch Notre Dame win the game and see how proud Jacob was. It was a good game; maybe I like football after all.

English Class

During my English class we researched different blogs that intrigued us.
When we looked at our different blogs. I chose to do one about cooking because I love to eat. The six main questions we discussed in class where:

1.     Who is the audience
2.     What is the purpose?
3.     Design – How did the blog look?
4.     Tone – What was the mood of the blog?
5.     Voice – What does the blog sound like?
6.     Context – Was the blog: personal, public, corporate, opinion, or journal.

We all compared our researched blog sites and came up with answers for all of these six questions and then discussed them in class.

Since my blog was about food here were my answers:
1.     The audience was food lovers and cooking enthusiasts.
2.     The purpose was to gather recipes and to discuss the taste.
3.     The blog design was neat and well managed.
4.     The blogs voice was friendly and enthusiastic.
5.     The blogs voice was professional.
6.     The context of the blog was setup like a journal entry.

Overall I liked the cooking blog I researched and it gave me cool ideas of how to do a blog of my own!
